WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is being used for overall well-being, including stress management.

Acupuncture is a minimally invasive method to stimulate nerve-rich areas of the skin surface which creates a cascade of positive changes inside the body to promote physiological functions, self regulation and encourage the body’s self-healing abilities. In other words, acupuncture largely relies on the body’s own regulatory state to accomplish its therapeutic proposes; if the health condition cannot resolve through body’s own natural healing abilities, then other alternatives should be used in a timely manner.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as qi (chi) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners will re-balance your energy flow.

Your mood, mental health, and general well-being do affect your physical health. Thus, acupuncture aims to assist people in achieving balance, or qi (chi), and, as a result, provide relief for many ailments.

Acupuncture works in three major ways: as analgesia, as a regulator of the physiological system, and as an enhancer of the immune defense system.
